Crystal was built almost all at once — block after block of 1950s ramblers put up for young families after the war, in the neighborhoods around Bass Lake Road, Douglas Drive, and the newly rebuilt Becker Park. Check the two white PVC pipes on the side of the house — in a hard freeze the intake or exhaust can frost over or drift shut with snow, and the furnace locks out for safety.
